Part of Identity Performance, Identity Theatre is an award-winning independent theatre company based in Melbourne, Australia.
Founded in 2002, Identity Theatre creates live performance that explores identity, relationships and the stories that shape how we understand ourselves and others.
Alongside theatre performances, we run workshops and interpersonal communication training programs.
Identity Theatre is based on Kulin Country. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of these lands, pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all First Nations people.
Our Latest Work: The Waste Land
TS Eliot's masterpiece, The Waste Land was staged at Jack's Magazine in 2022, 100 years after first publication. Described by Andrew Epstein as a wildly experimental, cacophonous and moving poem of despair and spiritual hunger, it was forged in the flames and devastation of the First World War. 100 years later, has much really changed in our culture?

The Fisher King - a wounded King representing the wounded creative in all of us is a key figure in TS Eliot's poem.
The Chapel Perilous
Deep into the poem, we encounter the Chapel Perilous. Referred to as part of the Grail Quest, within the poem, the great 'bastion' of the West is now only 'the wind's home' where 'dry bones can harm no one' (a reference to the Book of Ezekiel).
